City Hall (1996 Harold Becker)
Title is boring. Should have been called 'Probation Report'. (What am I talking about? That's just as boring.)
If I was going to attribute a shape to this film - and I am - I would say it is completely square, and may just get in the way.
John Cusack is slick second to Al Pacino's speechifying New York Mayor. Kid is killed in undercover police operation and Cusack finds foul play and cover-ups. Bridget Fonda, Larry Paymer (you know, Larry Paymer), Martin Landau, Danny Aiello and Tony Franciosca (remember him?) feature. And that guy from Mad Men.
Michael Seresin's usual diffused style seems to have been locked in a box but there's a nice stripy scene through a blind between Aiello and Franciosca.
