The film that Leone remade as Per Un Pugno di Dollari. Toshiro Mifune is rather cool as the samurai who plays two evil families off against each other. The baddies seem almost pantomime villains. It isn't as funny as Leone's version.
Interesting compositions and use of widescreen, aided by unusual score by Masaru Satô, who several times collaborated with Kurosawa. The DP is Kazuo Miyagawa, who captures the town and chilling Autumn well.
