A terrible film which helped bring attention to Jack Nicholson, as an outsider who tags along with the Angels but rejects them. An AIP cash-in on The Wild Angels. The first five minutes is a group of the bikers biking around. Then there's a fight scene which looks like one from the Batman TV show. Jack's really making an impression here and is well matched by Adam Roarke and Sabrina Scharf.
The Angels smoke dope! And drink beer! And do wheelies! And paint semi-naked ladies!
The best moment of tension - Roarke in empty swimming pool surrounded by five iron bar wielding goons - is totally fabricated - where are all the other Angels? The ending - Roarke tries to run over Nicholson and goes up in flames - is funny.
The music is terrible - all wrong for the material. It took Easy Rider to get the soundtrack right. The Nazi iconography present - swastikas, Iron Cross, Army helmets - is reprehensible. 'Leslie' Kovacs photographed it.
