The Lavender Hill Mob (1951 Charles Crichton)

After Only God Forgives we needed something really sweet and cheerful, and this was it. Absolutely brilliantly written by T.E.B. ('Tibby') Clarke. 'Instead of changing as usual at Charing Cross, I went straight on to Rio de Janeiro'. Crichton was useful in pruning down Clarke's 105 page script to a shorter 80 minute running time.

Alec Guinness, Stanley Holloway, Sid James, Alfie Bass, Marjorie Fielding (crime reading old lady), Edie Martin, John Gregson... Audrey Hepburn (fleetingly).

With the unbeatable combination of Georges Auric's music and Douglas Slocombe's cinematography. Edited by Seth Holt.

Love the moment where James and Bass are quite happy to trust Guinness and Holloway to return their share of the money to them.

This was quite possibly the only day in which I managed to get in six films.
