A remake of Kurosawa's Ikiru, written by Kazuo Ishiguro. Bill Nighy gives a wonderful performance as a repressed man in the late 1940s who learns he is to die, and begins to embrace life, with the help of artist Tom Burke, former colleague Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Ed) and newcomer Alex Sharp (The Trial of the Chicago Seven).
With Adrian Rawlins (Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself, much on TV), Hubert Burton, Oliver Chris, Michael Cochrane, Lia Williams.
Gorgeously shot by Jamie Ramsay in 4x3, inspired by stills photography like Cartier-Bresson, on digital, with the device of keeping a crowded foreground (e.g. County Hall scenes) to make the characters seem more isolated. According to my wife, it was apparently well edited by Chris Wyatt, but I didn't notice. Music by Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch (Maternal, Rocks).
It's very good.
Nighy was BAFTA and Oscar nominated.
