Having just seen the very nice seeming Zachary Quinto (Spock) with Zoe Saldana (Uhuru) on Jonathan Ross we felt inclined to give it a go, but an hour and a half in and Simon Pegg still hadn't materialised, so Q gave up and went to commune with nature in the garden (after commenting that the Vulcan city looked like Dubai!) In fact when he does finally appear Pegg unfortunately has pretty much a non-role. (He didn't write this one. That was Star Trek Beyond, 2016.
Of course Life of Pi was going to be exceedingly difficult to top with anything, and this didn't do it, though the in-jokes and references are fun. Abrams isn't writing, but it's as bonkers as his other stuff (with the notable exception of the sensitive Harrison Ford drama Regarding Henry), with future Spock telling present Kirk that he and present Spock must be friends etc. etc.
Eric Bana is the bad guy, with Karl Urban, John Cho and Anton Yelchin as Bones, Sulu and Chekov.
