In Katharine Hepburn's capable hands we initially feel so sorry for Alice Adams where she gamely attempts not to feel lonely at a snobbish dance, though she becomes annoying trying to cover up the family poverty. Able support from Fred Stone, Anne Shoemaker and Frank Albertson (Sam Wainwright in
It's A Wonderful Life), along with Fred MacMurray and, too briefly, Hattie 'McDaniels' as a particularly slow maid.
