The Verdict (1982 Sidney Lumet)

Written by David Mamet, an engrossing Boston-set legal drama. Newman is the out-of-control, washed up drunk who goes after a Catholic hospital which has left a young woman a vegetable. He and his partner Jack Warden must face a huge legal team, led by James Mason, and deal with a disappearing witness (who no doubt has been paid off) and an entirely inimical judge (well played by Milo O'Shea - Theatre of Blood, Ulysses, Purple Rose of Cairo, Sacco e Vanzetti). A Charlotte Rampling complicates matters in sneaky turn of events, in good story, well acted.

Nicely photographed by Andrjez Bartowiak, didn't take in Johnny Mandel's music at all. Edited by Peter Frank, with Lumet having designed a lot of shots to be covered in masters.
