So, a double bill of films released in 1997. Tweaked by seeing a trailer for it. John Hurt is lovably brilliant as an obsessive writer who's fallen obsessively for actor Jason Priestley and manoeuvres to befriend him on Long island. Hurt's waspish observations on America are wonderful. Based on a novel by Gilbert Adair. The faked film clips are perfect.
Our DVD was in 4x3 and didn't look cropped though IMDB lists it as 1.85:1 (more likely). It was a BBC / Pathe film production.
