Kid Galahad (1937 Michael Curtiz)

Typically tough and energetic Warner Bros. drama, with Edward G. as boxing promoter, Bette as his girl (?is she? there doesn't really seem to be a physical relationship between them?), Wayne Morris as bellhop (not really credible, although what is a bellhop? See - smartarse) and Bogie really mean, mean as a mean snake, before Huston invented the cool Bogie who we now remember. You'd want Harry Carey in your corner, and you got him, literally there. Add a William Haade as the opponent, Jane Bryan as the girl, and Soledad Jiminez as the most un-Italian Italian mother you could ask for and you have your pot.

Photographed by 'Gaetano' Gaudio.

Bryan was in The Old Maid; retired in 1940.
