Karen Croner adapted Anna Quindlen's semi-autobiographical novel, about a woman who has to leave her job to come home and take care of her mother - who isn't into the idea - because the father is a useless shit and a philandering college professor. Not much is made of all this really, over two hours - it's like shaking a champagne bottle but then leaving the cork in (not that I would do that - it's a waste of champagne).
The acting's decent, though, by Meryl Streep, Renée Zellweger and William Hurt.
