In the second of our inadvertent Bank Holiday Gay double bill, Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth give fabulous, award-worthy performances, often in long, uninterrupted takes. Good open ending too, well written film.
Good music Keaton Henson, photography in stunning Lake District settings by Dick Pope, edited by Chris Wyatt. With Pippa Heywood, Peter MacQueen, Nina Marlin, James Dreyfus.
Macqueen got the script to Tucci, who loved it, and recommended his great friend Firth (who did also).
Macqueen made one film before, Hinterland, which looks good but is strangely obscure.
Loved the G.K. Chesterton quote: "You will not starve for want of wonders, but only for want of wonder."
