A true story, screenplay by Arnold Schulman and David Seidler (The King's Speech), nicely summarised in the title. What's the moral? You can have a dream and succeed, but you can't go big as Big Corporate America won't let you. Yeah, try telling that to Mark Zuckerberg. (The difference I suppose he he was an innovator, a new market.)
Anyway, Jeff Bridges is winning in the lead role, supported by Joan Allen, Martin Landau, Frederic Forrest, Mako, Elias Koteas (the designer), Christian Slater, Nina Siemaszko. Luscious photography from Vittorio Storaro, sound design by Richard Beggs, edited by Priscila Nedd (Friendly) (also Pretty Woman, Doc Hollywood, 27 Dresses and The Guilt Trip).
Coppola often shoots from below, directs smoothly. Good use of incidental music, e.g. 'Tiger Rag'. Tucker's enthusiasm is infectious. Love the way the Landau character becomes part of the family. The madness that the army didn't want his armoured car as it was too fast. Very enjoyable.
