The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2005)

S 4, 2. In the Guise of Death. Writer Simon Block.

An apparent suicide in a stable in Cornwall next to Lynley's mum's. Her friend Stella Gonet seems a mite suspicious to us. Local detective Adrian Bower proves a useful assistant.

S 4, 3. The Seed of Cunning. Writer Mark Greig.

As soon as you see Roger Allam you know he's going to be involved, somehow. He works at the House of Lords, where a doorman has been found murdered. Turns out to be connected to some huge defence contract. Although Lynley and Havers get to the truth and catch the killer, for once there's no evidence to the real criminals and they get away with it. Which is quite an ending. Mark Day edited this one.

S 4, 4. Word of God. Writer Peter Jukes.

A dead man is found with a priceless page of a 'Golden Koran'. Turns out to be a case of organ selling involving Jane Lapotaire. Lynley has an extremely frictional relationship with an immigration officer Nigel Betts. Mark Benton is the seemingly helpful scholar who turns out to be a murderer (is this the right casting?). Lynley loses it and threatens to throw him over a balcony but Betts observes and the show (and season) ends when Lynley is arrested!

Havers is trying out dating with no luck. Seems to be getting on well with the pathologist Paul Hickey, but he's married. Lynley almost has an affair but can't quite commit to it. Ends up sleeping on Havers' sofa.

Mark Partridge shot all of these. He arranges some quite striking lighting designs:
