Barney's Version (2010 Richard J Lewis)

Told in flashback, Michael Konyves adaptation of Mordecai Richler's 1997 novel tells the author's own story - that on his wedding day he fell in love with another woman. He is played to perfection by Paul Giamatti. In truth he should never have married Minnie Driver because her father is such a hostile cunt. Then he manages to fuck up his relationship with his new wife Rosamund Pike - he basically pushes her away. What a jerk. The fact his daughter still loves him is almost beyond comprehension - Anna Hopkins. More understandable is the animosity of his son Jake Hoffman - his dad Dustin plays the writer's father, an ex cop.

There's also some stuff in Rome, and a missing friend, Scott Speedman. It's good. A Canadian production which was a box office dud.

Richler also wrote The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz.
