Q was all over
Norman, noting the silent sequence outside the shoe shop, the doppelganger dressing of Hank Azaria (an alternative version of Norman), Richard Gere's Woody Allenish-acting turn and the clever device of bringing two scenes into the same shot (and referring to him as Walter Mitty). For me, Norman is a blank centre in a cinematic film (when was the last time you saw a montage scene like
that?) which wasn't at all like what I thought it was going to be, with its close, intimate framing and distinctive, helpful music by Jun Miyake.
With Lior Ashkenazi, Steve Buscemi, Josh Charles, Charlotte Gainsborough, Isaac de Bankolé and with the most sensationally acted scene this year, Michael Sheen, as he realises what's going on... Impossible to catch in a single shot...
