How to Marry a Millionaire (1953 Jean Negulesco)

One of those funny early CinemaScope pictures where they're afraid to cut, or use close ups for fear the audience will swoon; thus you have these elegant tableaux of actresses across the screen - Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable, all husband hunting. Whilst William Powell is in the mix, we would like to know what tax evader David Wayne has lost that will help restore his fortune. Also with Rory Calhoun and Cameron Mitchell without necktie and the other beaus. Nice widescreen filming of 1950s New York (though all footage shot on the same day, I think).

Opens with Alfred Newman's 'Street Scene' composition - not sure why really.

Nunnally Johnson adapted several plays, and produced. Joe MacDonald shot it as reliably as ever.

Good in-joke about Bacall and older guys like 'that actor in The African Queen'.
