The Killer Is Loose (1955 Budd Boeticher)

Detective Joseph Cotten apprehends bank robber Wendall Corey but accidentally kills his wife in the process. Corey swears revenge on Cotten's wife (Rhonda Fleming). Sure enough several years later he escapes from prison. Cotten sets himself up as bait having sent his wife away to safety - so what does she do? Heads straight back into danger, of course.

Good short B movie. The robbery and climax are exciting enough and there are good touches, involving an ex officer Corey knew, and his wife. (Funnily enough the finale - as well as being quite funny - has a taste of The Girl Chewing Gum - "There's a black sedan coming from the west....")

Corey is good; unlike the more flippant persona we've seen in Rear Window and The File on Thelma Jordan.

Lionel Newman's music adds a certain something. Photographed by Lucien Ballard. An independent Crown Production through UA.
