The Last Angry Man (1959 Delbert Mann)

Written by Gerald Green from Richard Murphy's adaptation of Green's novel.

Aging Brooklyn doctor Paul Muni becomes the subject of producer David Wayne's TV show, with nephew Joby Baker's intervention. Fellow doctor Luther Adler also gets involved. With Betsy Palmer as the producer's wife, Claudia McNeil and Billy Dee Williams as brain tumour patient and mother, Joanna Moore, Dan Tobin. Good acting generally.

Some films of this era fall into talkiness and seriousness rather too much, but the old doctor himself is a good character, and the producer learns something from him on his deathbed. Benefits from some good on-location Brooklyn filming (James Wong Howe) and a good score from George Duning.

Republic Street, Brooklyn doesn't exist so I can't say what no. 1103 would have cost then or now. But in the 1950s NYC real estate values were $12 per square foot and they're now £1142 psf. So, yeah.
