The Iron Petticoat (1956 Ralph Thomas)

A film by Ben Hecht that isn't funny? Awful pairing of Bob Hope with Katharine Hepburn, with a touch of Ninotchka, in slackly made British film.

With Noelle Middleton, James Robertson Justice, Robert Helpmann, David Kossof, Sid James. Photographed by Ernest Steward (the print we saw on Film 4 was way too dark), music by Benjamin Frankel.

According to IMDB, the film metamorphosed into more of a typical Bob Hope comedy (particularly noticeable in last third) to such an extent that Hecht tried to get his name taken off the film. Now that makes sense.

There's one good joke about Communist flyer's obituary -
"Can we say 'Princess of the Skies?' "
"We don't like the word 'Princess'".
- and even that's not great.
