Endeavour: Terminus (2021 Kate Saxon)

What at the time of original broadcast may have been the last ever of the series, see here, is an absolute corker, atmospheric and creepy, with a full range of crises for our main characters.

Mark Waters' photography and Madelaine Leech's production design are excellent:

I noted several references last time, and asked 'Where's Marple?''. Well I missed some obvious Agatha Christie ones. There's a moment where two of the passengers are playing pool and one says 'You watch my back and I'll watch yours', which I swear is a direct quotation from And Then There Were None (René Clair's version), which the story clearly resembles, and the plot ultimately becomes Murder on the Orient Express!

At least we now know there will be a proper wrap-up and hopefully we'll learn why Thursday is never mentioned in the entire Morse series. (Gulp!)

Saxon: 'Trained as an actor, Kate moved into directing opera and theatre and now works across the disciplines of theatre, television, video games (garnering several BAFTA wins), VR and film'. More from BAFTA.

Another really sweet moment where Joan breaks down and Strange comforts her - Q reckons they'll end up together, but I'm not so sure. Some usual lovely quotations in the familiar style e.g. Strange: 'Don't worry about Morse. He tends to land butter-side."
