The elusive first season film, in which Joan's feisty friend Pam Ferris believes she's witnessed a murder on an adjacent train. Marple enlists the help of her capable niece Amanda Burton to investigate the (typically) dysfunctional family at Rutherford Hall (Knebworth House outside, Downton's Highclere Castle inside), whilst her friendly detective John Hannah investigates. And falls for Burton, as does American widower Michael Landes (Love Soup).
The family comprises David Warner, Niamh Cusack, Ben Daniels, Ciaran McMenamin, Rose Keegan and Charlie Creed-Miles. Griff Rhys-Jones and Rob Brydon are doctor and transport police respectively. With Pip Torrens (as Noel Coward!), Celia Imrie and (too briefly) Jenny Agutter. Burton acquits herself well.
