Kuwait Connection ذئاب لا تاكل اللحم (1973 Samir A. Khouri & scr)

1970s thriller with the then obligatory nudity and violence. So what's new? Well, the film is in Arabic, is set in Kuwait, and was made by Egyptians. It seems that Egypt is the biggest film producer in the Arab world and indeed in its 'Golden Age' in the  1950s was the third largest film producer in the world, but still the adult elements in this film come as a surprise.

It isn't unfortunately very good at all, roughly filmed with a mainly hand held camera and lots of zoom, the story is a man running from the Mafia who by chance ends up with a former girlfriend who is now married to a sick bastard. There's some quite creepy horrory elements to it all and a suitably nihilistic ending, with occasional laugh out loud moments of badness.

With Ezzat El Alaili, Nahed Sharif, Mohsen Sarhan.

Odd sex scene featuring doves, for no good reason

This interesting article discusses the portrayal of sex in Egyptian cinema. But things are much more repressed now. This story is from 2015 and includes '“...if it is a scene of explicit sex it will be removed,” Chairman of the Censorship Bureau Abd El Sattar Fathy said. Images of “male and female genitalia as well as nudity scenes will also be removed,” he added. “Any movie that is clearly promoting pornography, homosexuality or that is damaging Egypt’s relations with some specific countries will still be rejected,” Fathy noted.
