Joy (2015 David O Russell & scr)

Annie Mumolo, who co-wrote Bridesmaids, was originally commissioned by Fox to write the autobiog of Joy Mangano. The studio then turned it over to Russell who substantially rewrote it, following on from American Hustle. It's a fab film, wonderfully directed and shot by Linus Sandgren. All performances, led by Jennifer Lawrence, great: Robert de Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Diane Ladd, Virginia Madsen, Isabella Rossellini, Dascha Polanko, Isabella Crovetti (young Joy).

The soaps are funny and I loved the scene with Lawrence and her climactic showdown with business opponent in hotel room.

Theresa Russell is thanked in the credits, intriguingly.
