Written by Beatty and Elaine May, we seem to be in afterlife territory again, as quarterback Beatty is unfairly snatched into the heavens, then temporarily becomes a rich and corrupt industrialist so he can romance Julie Christie. Conversations in cupboards with James Mason and Buck Henry ensue. Beatty runs around the mansion energetically, confounding cheating wife Dyan Cannon and adviser Charles Grodin, to the bemusement of butler Joseph Maher.
It all comes from forties film Here Comes Mr Jordan, but is better than that.
Lit by William A Fraker.
