Charming and original romantic fantasy. A young man accidentally drowns, finds himself in heaven with his aunt Maureen Stapleton and the odd character Emmett - ah. I see. 'Emmett' is in fact Debra Winger. Pardon? I said Emmett is Debra Winger.
I said it was original.
Anyway, he falls in love with Kelly McGillis and they marry, but she is sent back to earth as a baby. Hutton is also reborn to find her.
It has a lively sense of pace, and isn't as cute as you might imagine - Hutton's character doesn't have an easy life, but he eventually makes good. He's rather good and McGillis is fine. Neil Young is a truck driver, Tom Petty's in it too.
Very good and suitable music from Mark Isham (In the Valley of Elah, In Her Shoes, Crash, Short Cuts). Photographed by Jan Keisser.
Written by Bruce Evans and Raynold Gideon. Looking forward to seeing more Alan Rudolph such as Trouble In Mind, Choose Me, The Moderns and Afterglow.
