Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret (2023 Kelly Fremon Craig & scr)

I must confess to not being the target audience for this 1970-set story of teenage girls growing up (a bit), from a much loved book (by Judy Blume) which Q read when young, though it's well handled and competent enough in the acting and story-telling. Abby Ryder Fortson is the daughter of Rachel McAdams and Benny Safdie (co-author of Uncut Gems), relocated from NYC to the suburbs of New Jersey. It addresses her struggles with friendship, the opposite sex, religion, families and pubescence.

Kathy Bates is her grandmother.

Plays a bit like a made-for-TV film, though we know Craig from another coming-of-age movie, The Edge of Seventeen. I liked the odd boy whose party they attend, and his slight flamboyance; and the school stud, who's actually a bit of a shit.

Think it might be a Baltimore Oriole
