Naissance des Pieuvres / Water Lilies (2007 Céline Sciamma & scr)

Well that doesn't translate as 'Water Lilies'. Literally it means 'Birth of octopuses'. In other words, the feeling of adolescent love growing in the stomach like an octopus, an octopus with three hearts.

She does catch these girls well. Pauline Acquart is the shy one who develops a fixation on a 'slut' on the swim team, Adèle Haenel, and in doing so betrays her better friend Louise Blachère.

And I have to say the synchronized swimming looked brilliant, and hard to do.

It was filmed in Cergy, Val d'Oise. a 1960s 'New town' about an hour and a half to the northwest of  Paris.
