I'm sure it is a story that needed telling properly, based partly on 'A Fine Day for a Hanging'; by Caroline Lee'. Though I'm not sure the current title is much good.
Lucy Boynton is the nightclub manager who gets mixed up with violent racing driver Laurie Davidson while ignoring the advances of weak but helpful (though ultimately destructive) Mark Stanley (Trigger Point, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe). After his killing, Toby Jones tries to help defend her, with limited help from Toby Stephens, while Joe Armstrong investigates (a bit). Q tells me that Nigel Havers is actually playing his grandfather, the judge!
But why is it filmed in ITV's new camera process Murk-o-Vision? Funnily enough, the DP Bryan Gavigan made a short called Fog!

Terrible fog you used to get in London in those days |
It clearly had a big effect on Ruth's son Andy, who killed himself in 1982 after an undocumented life.
Special little mention to sympathetic jailer Gloria Obianyo and the corpulent nightclub owner Christian Patterson.
