Nighy is a super- 'image maker' who doesn't listen to anyone (even, in amusing scene, media mogul who he's pitching to), feels distanced from his daughter Blunt (in serious mode) and develops a relationship with grieving mother Richardson. All cast excellent (was wondering who this young man playing Nighy's partner was, and why he didn't go further, not realising it was Tom Hardy!), pointed and poignant moments. Poliakoff likes his long shots (provides distance from characters?)
Scored by long-time collaborater Adrian Johnston and shot by Barry Aykroyd. Clare Douglas has edited many Poliakoffs (BAFTA nominated for The Lost Prince) and Dennis Potter series, and was Oscar nominated for United 93 (which also won her the BAFTA).
Shot around Victoria (Grosvenor Place, unless I'm very much mistaken) and (apparently) in Southall.
