I, Daniel Blake (2016 Ken Loach)

Written by Paul Laverty, an important film which catches the insanity and inhumanity of bureaucracy, even though it doesn't quite ring true in a couple of places. Dave Johns and Hayley Squires are perfect. It's shot by the invaluable Robbie Ryan. Heart-breaking.

Won the Cannes Palme D'Or (and has something of the Dardennes brothers about it) and the BAFTA for Best British Film.

If I'd been Daniel Blake though I would have ignored the doctors and taken any carpentry-related job I could..
