Spellbound (1945 Alfred Hitchcock)

An extremely interesting premise (an amnesiac in charge of a psychiatric hospital) to a film which doesn't take itself very seriously (Ben Hecht's screenplay is full of jokes).

Ingrid Bergman is as fantastic as ever. All cast good as usual - Gregory Peck, Michael Chekov, Leo G Carroll, Rhonda Fleming, Norman Lloyd, John Emery. Rozsa's score is both iconic and syrupy, George Barnes provides lovely images.

The more you watch Hitch the more you realise how distinctive he is in the smallest ways - the constantly changing camera set ups and the unusual shot choices. This is a guy who knows how to use a close up. And that dream sequence is a doozy.
