Foyle's War: A War of Nerves (2004 Gavin Millar)

Brilliant plot centres around group of bomb defusal experts who come across illegally obtained money - their lives are so risky it makes perfect sense they'd want to keep it. Film also asks the question, how do you make wedding cake without sugar?

Dugald Bruce-Lockhart is their charismatic leader, who plays it a bit like Gordon Ramsay. Samuel Oatley, a younger member of the team, is to be married to Sgt Rivers' daughter - these two played by Geoffrey Freshwater and Joanna Horton.

Meanwhile an annoying Commissioner Corin Redgrave wants Foyle to investigate left winger Peter Capaldi, but Foyle is busier looking into dodgy dockyard bosses David Westhead and Matthew Flynn. With Peter Hugo-Daly (interesting CV includes Made in Dagenham, GBH and Gangs of New York.)

In terms of putting your principal characters in danger, the episode begins with Sam calmly dealing with a drunken soldier with a gun, whilst later on Milner is shot.

Last of the third season, 1941.
