Man Follows Birds (1976 Ali Hamroiyev)

That's what the film is allegedly called. I watched a version without subtitles, so it could have been called anything.

The on-screen title looks like uelober yxogum 3a nmuuayu but it's listed as 'Chelovek ukhodit za ptitsami'. It's made in Soviet Uzbekistan.

Script author Temur Zulfiqorov, camera Yuri Klimenko, music Rumile Vildanov, though also credits 'directors M. Abzalov, D Abidov' so i don't know what's going on. It turns out there were subtitles but I couldn't access them on my player. It was an odd experience but I think I caught basically what was going on. The film is very poetic and quite odd, the music ranging from seventies synthesizer to what sounds like Mozart or someone to ethnic music. It apparently stars Jahangir Faiziev, Dilorom Kambarova and Abdugani Saidov.

It wasn't helped by a poor print in which odd things kept happening to the picture.

Lots of ethnic detail, stunning imagery of nature, symbolism, trickery. Seems to have a shade of Tarkovsky to it.
