A Man Called Otto (2022 Marc Forster)

Tom Hanks is a grumpy, suicidal old man in this remake of En Man Som Heter Ove, itself based on a novel by Fredrik Backman, adapted here by David Magee. His life is interrupted and enriched by a new neighbour Mariana Treviño and her generally useless husband Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Truman Hanks and Rachel Keller play the younger couple, Mack Bayda a trans student he befriends (who rather fades in and out of the story - in fact quite an irrelevant character, really).

Forster and editor Matt Chesse overshoot and over-edit everything (remember the same pair's Quantum of Solace?), though this style does work much better in the flashes of the past flashbacks moments.

Film is utterly predictable and enjoyable. Filmed in Pittsburg by Matthias Koenigsweiser; music by Thomas Newman.
