Strangers on a Train (1951 Alfred Hitchcock)

A wonderful film. If North by Northwest is a bad dream, this one's a nightmare. Are all Hitch's films dreams?

I love the moments of what Hitch called 'pure cinema' - Guy entering Bruno's father's house, the finale on the merry-go-round (genius - the danger coming as much from the horses hooves and speed as the psycho) - though you could also label these simply as 'silent film', where Hitch came from - a useful education.

Now they're both behind bars:

Also love Patricia Hitchcock's performance / character, and the moment that Guy explains murder to two older but clearly fascinated women.

A Manhattan, to answer my beloved's question, is 2 ounces of whiskey, 1 ounce of sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, garnished with a cherry or a twist of lemon... and that's why I don't know what one is. It sounds disgusting. Whisky and wine in the same glass - a guaranteed hangover.

Q in lighter / drain scene: "Do it yourself, you over-privileged psychopath!"
