Wildflower (1991 Diane Keaton)

A TV film with interesting credentials. Not the debut of Patricia Arquette - she'd been in The Indian Runner, for example - nor of Reese Witherspoon, who had appeared in The Man In the Moon. Neither the debut for Diane Keaton, who had made shorts, documentaries and even directed an episode of Twin Peaks before this. Janusz Kaminski had made a few films too, though Spielberg spotted his work in this, was intrigued by how quickly he had photographed it, and offered him a job - which became his first Oscar for Schindler's List.

Sara Flanigan's story is well acted, particularly with a seriously good performance from Arquette, along with Beau Bridges, Witherspoon, Susan Blakely, William McNamara (Texasville), Norman Max Maxwell (the horrible father), Richard K Olsen (doctor). Arquette won something called a CableACE award for Best Actress on a cable show.

It's edited with a lot of dissolves by Stephen Rivkin - it's Dissolve City, in fact (Pirates of the Caribbeans, Avatar).
