Black Snow (2022 Lucas Taylor)

A masochistic detective, played by Travis Fimmel, takes a cold case involving the murder of a girl in Queensland 25 years earlier. Six hours later, with the involvement of her initially unhelpful sister Jemmason Power, he gets his man.

We imagine the 'black snow' is the burning particles coming off the sugar cane factory that we see once.

We liked the sub-text idea, that the community of South Sea Islanders are only there as their ancestors were kidnapped slaves.

It's quite low-key: nothing really happens until the last episode.

Fimmel is good at holding it all together. He has a gimlet gaze at suspects, like Marple, but is visibly human when he becomes annoyed or restless or impatient.

Talija Blackman-Corowa (murdered girl), Gulliver McGrath (young constable), Annabel Wolfe, Jimi Bani, Fraser Anderson, Josh Macqueen, Erik Thomson. lots of other people.

Quite interesting music by Jed Palmer, photographed by Eric Murray Lui, directed by Sian Davies and Matthew Saville.
