The experience of three black women immigrants in 1950s England. They had to be tough. Yazmin Belo is the preacher's daughter, Saffron Coomber the wannabe actress, Rochelle Neil the one who may marry a charismatic Javone Prince (until Leemore Marrett Jr shows up).
The scenes in Dudley of them being pursued by teddy boys through the streets is almost unwatchable. Then on the news we saw something horribly similar still happening today - in another part of the world, at least.
Constant harassment they face makes it a difficult watch - was it really needed? I was veering between depression and boredom.
