A man - Billy Crudup, looking terribly young - finds his father Albert Finney had always told him tall stories, and frustrated, wants to know the truth. But as his doctor says, do you want the boring version of the story, or the largely exaggerated fun one?
Ewan McGregor enacts the younger Finney on his journey of tall stories, involving Giant Matthew McGrory, 'witch' Helena Bonham-Carter, Siamese twins Ada and Arlene Tai, terrible poet Steve Buscemi and circus impresario Danny de Vito. And it's quite a fun journey, and that's all I've got to say about that.
With Jessica Lange, Marion Cotillard, Robert Guillaume.
Beautifully photographed by Philippe Rousselot.
Music by Danny Elfman, John August adapted Daniel Wallace's novel. Editing by Chris Lebenzon (several Burton films, latterly co-edited Disenchanted with Emma Hickox). Production design Dennis Gassner.
