Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu (2019 Céline Sciamma & scr)

The date is an approximation as I can't remember which Sunday morning I watched it.

The 1700s. A strong willed artist Noémie Merlant travels to an island to paint a reluctant woman, Adèle Haenel, who is to be married. After a while they start an affair, which ends when the commission is over. But some while later, the woman notices a reference to their affair in one of the artist's paintings.

A deliberately paced and very beautifully photographed film, by Claire Mathon (Spencer, Petite Maman, by the same director), who won the César for it.

Cannes winner for best screenplay, many César nominations and one from BAFTA for best foreign film.
