The source is Holly Jackson's yoof books and Cogan has written most of the six 40 minute episodes, for the BBC. Directed by actor Dolly Wells and Tom Vaughan (three each).
It's not particularly credible but probably isn't supposed to be. I pegged the killer as soon as I saw him. Enjoyable.
Our young mostly well-behaved sleuth is Emma Myers, who's actually American, and also in Wednesday. With Zain Iqbal (these two have great chemistry), Asha Banks, Henry Ashton, India Lillie Davies, Carla Woodcock, Raiko Gohara, some other young people, Gary Beadle (Rye Lane, Summer of Rockets, Eastenders), Anna Maxwell-Martin, Matthew Baynton.
