From a short Dostoyevsky story 'White Nights', this is the 'Liverpool copy' of Bresson's ultra-rare movie. With its frequent (naturally occurring) music, some of it played by street buskers, this is almost Bresson's musical!
In typically spare style he presents the story of Guillaume des Forêts and Isabelle Weingarten over the four nights of the title, mainly taking place at the Pont Neuf.
I loved the ultra-slow way he tidies up the flat before answering the door, and his rustic adventure, and the extremely ironic ending.
Yes, well worth the wait. Photographed by Pierre Lhomme.
