The Murder at the Vicarage (2004 Charlie Palmer)

This was the first Marple novel, published in 1930, adapted by Stephen Churchett, the second in this series. In Marple's own village of St Mary Mead (Hambleden), the horrible Derek Jacobi is murdered - who dunnit, eh? Wife Janet McTeer? Daughter Christina Cole? Miss Marple herself (Geraldine McEwan)?

Rest of cast: Rachel Stirling, Tim McInnerny, Mark Gatiss, Robert Powell, Jane Asher, Angela Pleasance, Jason Flemyng, Herbert Lom (87 here, his final performance), Ruth Sheen, Stephen Tompkinson, Siobhan Hayes (who I guess we recognised from My Family), Julian Morris, Miriam Margolyes.

Good fun, successful episode (if it can be called that), not bedevilled by overacting, discreetly romantic, lightly amusing.
