Lady for a Day (1933 Frank Capra)

Depression-era fable from Damon Runyon, adapted by Robert Riskin. Tough panhandler 'Apple' Annie (May Robson) enlists the help of gambler Dave 'the Dude' (Warren William) as her daughter is coming from Spain, believing her mother is in posh society.

Many great moments including snooker game between Guy Kibee and Count Walter Connelly, disappearing journalists, ending. With Glenda Farrell, Ned Sparks ('Happy'), Jean Parker, Nat Pendleton, Halliwell Hobbes.

Photographed with glistening beauty by Joe Walker. Columbia. Capra, Riskin, Robson and the film were all Oscar nominated.

Loved the joke about the gay make-up man, therefore must be pre-code; sure Warren says "Bollocks up the whole thing" at one point, too.
