The Big Fix (1978 Jeremy Kagan)

A 1970s LA-set private eye story with Richard Dreyfuss (in fine form in his best decade) as the divorced father of two who gets involved in a political smear campaign, brought to his attention by ex student radical girlfriend Susan Anspach, involving John Lithgow. Good not convoluted but familiar detective story with comedy tones. Great character in Aunt Sonya - Rita Karlin (also in He Said She Said).

With Bonnie Bedelia, Ofelia Medina, Nicolas Coster, F. Murray Abraham, Fritz Weaver - and Mandy Patinkin as a bewildered pool guy.

Written by Roger L. Simon, from his novel. Photographed by Frank Stanley, music by Bill Conti (Karate Kids, Rockys, Broadcast News). Well directed and edited (Patrick Kennedy).

Also nice to hear 'Boogie Nights' by Heatwave again.

Thought the girl on the right to be too pretty to just be an extra - I was wrong. Perhaps someone's girlfriend, who they were hoping would be 'noticed'

Good sub-text about the failure of the sixties protests - one of the most voluble of the protestors is now in advertising!
