I personally found the Fox Archives DVD horribly dark and distracting. You can't even read the credits properly - it was photographed by George Barnes, who wouldn't have put up with it. I wonder if the French copy is better blah blah blah. Another rabbit hole.
Anyway, the film is fun, with Fonda being suckered in by fraudulent 'family' (Hollywood plot line 224) Gene Tierney, Spring Byington and Laird Cregar (who when dashing from bush to bush is quite the most energetic I've seen him!) But Frank Orth as the detective is great value too.
