Paul Did It! (1958 Guy Green)

It's not really called that, the title is The Snorkel. But this should have been a Hitchcock half hour. At the beginning we see how Peter Van Eyck (knew I knew that name - Five Graves to Cairo) calmly bumps off his wife, leaving no trace (but doesn't explain how he comes to be there without the staff noticing he's arrived), then his step daughter Mandy Miller tries to prove it. Other plot holes: if he did manage to bump her off by drowning or gas, either would surely have alerted the police something was up.

OK. Filmed in Italy and France.

With Betta St John, Grégoire Aslan. Photographed by Jack Asher. Script by Jimmy Sangster and Peter Myers from the back of a fag packet owned by Dial M For Murder actor Anthony Dawson. A Hammer film.
