10 Things I Hate About You (1999 Gil Junger) - all the reviews

September 2013:

Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger (not really looking happy, though I loved the improv bum smack when the cops are after him), Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, David Krumholtz (in a part young Dreyfuss would have suited), Larry Miller (father), Allison Janney.

Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith (also Legally Blonde and the upcoming LB3 - not 2, you notice) based it on The Taming of the Shrew - and thus you can hardly blame it for being predictable -  and it begins in a far more literate fashion than is normal for a teen movie.

It's really not badly put together and some of the background character details are amusing.

June 2016:

There are I think in fact 13 (or 14) things Julia Stiles claims she 'hates' about Heath Ledger, in a delivery that brought a tear to my eye. They're good, and David Krumholtz kept reminding me of a young Martin Scorsese. Funniest moment by far is where Heath sings, and the cops chase him, though former hip hop artist Daryl 'Chill' Mitchell also has some good scenes as teacher with attitude. He also delivers a fantastic Shakespeare reading - this is the way it should be done, rap style!

September 2018:

Film is as predictable as they all are, though has nice moments of humour caught in deep focus by Mark Irwin, such as sex writing teacher Alison Janney and rapping English professor Daryl Mitchell.

September 2024:

Yeah - Larry Miller as the father. Gabrielle Union - the totally disloyal best friend. Andrew Keegan - the 'model'.
