A lovely film, Theo's best. Bill Murray was beginning to make me think of Beat Takeshi a bit in that they're both quite impassive... up until the time something happens and they break into a smile or gesture.
Was it written for him? I don't know, but I do know that Melfi phoned him over and over and over again until he finally agreed to meet, and that his character is based on Melfi's father-in-law, who was a drunk, smoked, abandoned his children... and was a Vietnam vet. And the other interesting thing was that Melfi's brother died unexpectedly, so he and his wife adopted his daughter, and it was she who had the catholic Saint project. (Source: moviemom.com.)
With Melissa McCarthy, Jaeden Lieberher, Naomi Watts, Chris O'Dowd, Terrence Howard, Nate Corddry. Theo's wife Kimberly Quinn plays the nurse.
Didn't realise 'I Fought the Law' written by Sonny Curtis and performed here by Green Day was originally a 1959 release by The Crickets.
